Francesco Cominelli is one of the fashion editors at Vogue Hommes International, and also works as a stylist for publications such as Hercules, Blast and more. Youll be missed!
I still have the conversation with Francesco on Facebook. I was shocked when I heard the news. Its really sad.

why don’t you update ur blog
My apologies, I’ve been very busy with school. I am taking 18 units this semester and I’m trying to graduate. But trust me, I have a few updates you’re going to love, so stay tuned.
how do you feel about diffusion lines? at first, innovative and exciting but now becoming so gimmicky and some very cheap looking…. do you think this a smart move for high-end or is it selling out?
Diffusion lines, when done right, are an exceptional way to market a brand to a new audience. It is especially appealing to hear about an upcoming designer and their brand and see how their aesthetics are translated into a lower-priced diffusion line.
I personally love diffusion lines because, as someone who doesn’t necessarily have the means to spend very much on clothing, it still gives me a “taste” of a brand that may have otherwise not been of any interest to me.
I think diffusion lines are perfect for attracting customers to preview a specific brand and what it has to offer. In doing so, they are able to establish a relationship that might perhaps continue for many years to come.
I do however think that sometimes diffusion lines have a tendency to be gimmicky and cheap-looking. Production-wise the quality of many diffusion lines are incredible. T By Alexander Wang is a perfect example of this, as is DKNY. However, this can’t be said for all brands.
Did/do you go to fashion school?
I do not currently attend fashion school and I never attended it. When I was in high school however, I wanted to go to FIT or PARSONS.
Why makes your blog different than other blogs?
I looked at my blog with the perspective of someone who might not have essentially been interested in fashion. I asked myself, “hmm, if I were to explain Alexander McQueen to someone, in terms that they would understand, and in ways that they could relate, how would I do it?” so what I basically try and think about when I write an entry is, “does it sound like Onell wrote it? and even if he weren’t here to read it, would it convey the same message?” I also wanted to have it sort of as a personal internship to see if I could create a blog as an amateur fashion writer.
It’s my first non-personal blog so it’s not by any means perfect (nor am I trying for it to be).
I love how you write your entries do you look up to any writers?
I look up to many many writers. I love reading Cathy Horyn, Robin Givhan, Lynn Yaeger, Sally Singer, Suzy Menkes, Tim Blanks, Hilary Alexander and Hamish Bowles. There are a few others but I can’t think of them…
What do you want to do after college?
I would love to go to grad school on London or Paris. I know for sure I would like to pursue a career in Fashion Journalism and be a fashion writer/editor/stylist.
And just to experience it, I would love to work at a top modeling agency or with a superb casting director to see firsthand how models get cast for shows or editorials.
Do you write all your blogs or do you have writers?
I have written every single entry on my blog, and will continue to be a one-man-act!
What’s your nationality?
I am Filipino.
What’s your favorite food?
I love chicken, ice cream, crab cakes, wine (does that count?) and chocolate.

Why did you decide to aspire to be a fashion writer?
When I was young, I was just fascinated with fashion. I used to read Vogue’s and I loved models and designers and learning about clothing. I remember that when I was about nine or ten yearsold, I would wake up on Saturday morning around 7 and watch this tv program called “Fashion File” hosted by Tim Blanks and I watched it religiously for about 2-3 years. I always thought it would be cool to be able to attend fashion shows and write about them.
Over the years my interests in fashion have gone up and down the spectrum. I wanted to be everything from a fashion designer, fashion photographer, stylist, model booker, you name it!
Eventually, I decided to become a fashion journalist because I love writing. I’ve always had a passion for writing and a passion for fashion so I thought “why not put the two together?” I love being able to convey a message and paint a picture with words.
Who are your favorite designers?
Karl Lagerfeld, Alber Elbaz, Nicolas Ghesquire, Muicia Prada, Hedi Slimane, Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Stefano Pilatti, Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester, Hussein Chalayan, Dries van Noten, Rei Kawakubo and Phoebe Philo. I’m sure I’m missing a few, but you get the gist of it.
What is your favorite clothing brand?
I’m obsessed with James Perse basics but I buy
clothes from a lot of places that range from H&M, American Apparel, Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters…
